Hey everyone! A recent CGTN poll involving 15,947 respondents from 38 countries has revealed some eye-opening insights into global sentiment toward the U.S. administration. After just 100 days in office, many around the world — including those in traditional allies like the UK, Germany, and Japan — are feeling pretty uneasy about the "America First" approach. 😲
American respondents aren’t holding back either. Nearly half (48.9%) expressed dissatisfaction with the new administration. Many pointed fingers at policies like "reciprocal tariffs," which over half (53.1%) believe had a negative impact on the U.S. stock market. Even more are concerned about domestic economic strategies: 60.4% feel inflation isn’t under control, with 54% questioning the interest rate policy. In fact, 43.1% foresee a worsening economy in just three months, while 47.5% sense the nation is heading in the wrong direction.
The ripple effects are not confined to U.S. borders. Respondents from countries such as Australia, Italy, France, and South Korea are particularly worried. Australian opinions shifted dramatically, with a whopping 65.5% now pessimistic about U.S.-Australia relations — a jump of 24.5 percentage points from an earlier survey. Similar trends with sharp increases in pessimism were seen in Italy, and in countries like Canada, Japan, and Germany, the majority (over 70%) are rethinking the long-term U.S. relationship. 🌐
The mood isn’t any brighter in the Global South either. Among the 23 surveyed nations, 82.6% of them expressed a bleak outlook on future relations with the U.S. Places like South Africa, Egypt, Indonesia, and Malaysia saw confidence plummet by over 20 percentage points. These figures signal a clear message: the "America First" policy is stirring global doubts and fraying traditional ties with allies.
This survey — conducted in collaboration with Renmin University of China through the Institute of International Communication in the New Era — sheds light on a shifting international landscape. For young professionals and tech-savvy minds across South Asia and Southeast Asia, these developments serve as a reminder of how global policies resonate across borders, influencing economic trends, digital markets, and even how we connect worldwide. Stay informed and keep the conversation going! 🤔
