Exciting developments in the world of academia! The National Center for Philosophy and Social Sciences Documentation (NCPSSD) has seen a 34.2% increase in its overseas use in 2024, marking a major boost for Chinese research on the global stage. 🌍
At an academic symposium in Beijing hosted by the Library of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the NCPSSD, two key reports were unveiled: the 2024 Report on the Most Popular Journals and the 2024 User Usage Analysis Report. These reports highlight how Chinese academic journals—such as Qiushi (an official publication of the Central Committee of the CPC), Religious Studies, Research in Education Development, Archaeology, and Jiangsu Higher Education—are increasingly capturing the attention of international users.
Since its initial release in 2018, this initiative has strengthened the visibility of Chinese-language academic publications, contributing to a robust and independent knowledge system within the humanities and social sciences. Today, the platform hosts over 27 million data records and boasts more than eight million registered users across 197 countries and regions, with cumulative visits exceeding 1.6 billion!
Adding a tech twist, the symposium also delved into how artificial intelligence can empower academic publishing. Over 80 representatives from academic journal editorial boards discussed both the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI, with a proposal on responsible AI use in academic journals set to be released soon 🤖.
This surge in global engagement not only signifies the growing appetite for Chinese social sciences research but also demonstrates how traditional academia is merging with modern technology. For tech-savvy young professionals and students in South and Southeast Asia, these insights underscore a dynamic intersection of culture, technology, and global trends that is reshaping the academic landscape.
