Ancient Silk Texts Return Home After 79 Years

Hey everyone! Exciting news from our rich past — the ancient Zidanku Silk Manuscripts volumes II and III have finally returned to Beijing after spending 79 years in the U.S. 📜✨

These priceless manuscripts, unearthed from the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), are the only ones discovered so far from that era. Originally, they were part of a sealed tomb in the Zidanku area near Changsha City in central China's Hunan Province. Unfortunately, grave robbers stole them in 1942 and they were taken to the U.S. in 1946.

In a significant cultural heritage move, the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art deaccessioned the manuscripts and formally transferred them to the National Cultural Heritage Administration. This historic return enriches our connection to a legacy that has been missing for decades.

It’s a powerful reminder that history is all around us, influencing our present in unexpected ways. Stay curious and keep exploring our vibrant past! 🏺
