In a heartfelt response to the tragic Air India Flight 171 crash in Gujarat, Tata Group has pledged to provide 1 crore Indian rupees (10 million rupees or around $116,854) as compensation to the family of each victim. 💔
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, crashed just after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, located about 17 km south of Gandhinagar. In addition to the compensation, Tata Group has committed to covering the cost of medical expenses for those injured and will support the rebuilding of the medical hostel affected by the accident.
N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, stated, "We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured."
Air India's chief executive, Campbell Wilson, also expressed deep sorrow in a video statement and confirmed that special relief flights have been arranged from Delhi and Mumbai to help the next of kin of the affected passengers and staff.
While initial reports indicate one fatality and several missing along with many injured, details remain fluid as investigations continue. Images from the scene, including scattered plates and utensils in the hostel canteen, have painted a vivid picture of the unfolding tragedy.
This proactive measure by Tata Group brings a glimmer of hope amid the distress, affirming a commitment to support communities during these challenging times. Stay tuned for more updates as the story develops. 🙏
