Sweida Ceasefire Shake-Up: Withdrawal & Clashes

In a dramatic turn, Syria's interior authorities announced that Bedouin tribal fighters have fully withdrawn from the southern city of Sweida following intensive ceasefire efforts. A three-phase ceasefire—brokered by the United States, Türkiye, Jordan, and other regional actors—was enacted to halt violence that has claimed hundreds of lives since mid-July.

However, calm was short-lived. Hours later, fierce clashes erupted as Druze armed groups launched a counteroffensive, reclaiming parts of the city. Retaliatory mortar attacks reportedly caused material damage and raised fears of civilian injuries. 😟

Syria's Druze spiritual leadership condemned the actions of the retreating tribal forces, stating that these violations are "crimes that shame all humanity." Calls are now mounting for international guarantors to enforce the ceasefire and stop what many see as a campaign of terror against Sweida’s residents.

Amid these unfolding events, Sweida now faces a looming humanitarian crisis with widespread infrastructure damage, severe medical supply shortages, and the collapse of its main hospital. The city's future remains uncertain as efforts to restore stability continue. 🌍✨
