In a groundbreaking step toward regional peace, Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire effective from midnight (24:00) on 28 July 2025. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim hosted the meeting and detailed the de-escalation process during a joint press conference with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai.
The agreement marks the first phase of a series of measures aimed at restoring calm in the region. Following the ceasefire, regional army commanders will meet face-to-face at 7 a.m. local time on 29 July, with defense attaches set to convene soon after. A General Border Committee meeting on 4 August in Cambodia is also on the agenda to further enhance dialogue and cooperation.
Malaysia, as the current ASEAN chair, is ready to coordinate an observer team to verify and monitor the ceasefire—a move that underscores the region's commitment to peace and stability. Leaders from both sides have also agreed to resume direct communications between their prime ministers, foreign ministers, and defense ministers.
For our tech-savvy and globally connected readers, this is more than just a diplomatic update—it’s a signal that regional collaboration can pave the way for a safer, more interconnected future. Stay tuned for more updates on this inspiring journey toward lasting peace! ✌️
