Heads up history buffs! 🤔 The Chinese mainland spoke out on Friday, calling out Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te for twisting the facts about World War II. At a regular press briefing, spokesperson Zhu Fenglian warned that any attempt to rewrite history and challenge the post-war order will backfire.
But what’s the deal? Zhu pointed out that 80 years ago, people from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan compatriots made huge sacrifices in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Their unity helped secure victory, defended sovereignty, and shaped today’s global order.
According to Zhu, Lai’s recent post blurred right and wrong, peddling a “democracy vs authoritarianism” narrative and the separatist idea of “Taiwan independence.” She stressed that relying on foreign forces or force to push for independence is a no-go.
Looking ahead, Zhu urged compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to remember this shared history, safeguard the fruits of victory, and stand firm against moves that could split ties or invite outside meddling. 🤝
In Zhu’s words, “Distorting history and challenging the post-war system won’t fly—there’s no winning by rewriting our shared past.” Time to keep it real and honour the lessons from our grandparents’ generation!
