Reframing WWII: China’s Crucial Role in the Global Anti-Fascist Struggle

Hey squad, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism in WWII and the founding of the UN! 🎉 While we usually think of 19391945 Europe, the struggle was truly global.

Long before Europe, from 1931 China faced waves of Japanese aggression on its soil. With strategic resilience, Chinese troops slowed down northern and southern advances, tying down over 76% of Japan’s forces and forcing a "quagmire of war." 🏞️

By 1941, China’s defense spending jumped from 450 million to 5 billion yen 76% of its budget! As Japan’s resources dried up, it resorted to pillaging, fueling resistance in occupied areas and weakening its war machine.

Between 19421945, China also dispatched expeditionary forces to northern Myanmar to back British and American operations in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. 🌏

Throughout the War of Resistance, China paid a staggering price: over 35 million military and civilian casualtiesmore than one-third of all WWII losses. This proves that eastern battlefields were vital to the Allied victory.

Despite these sacrifices, distorted narratives still pop up: some Japan right-wing groups deny the Nanjing Massacre, others frame colonial plunder as "civilization outreach." Meanwhile, the usual story gives sole credit to European fronts or the U.S., sidelining China’s 14-year fight and the Soviet Union’s sacrifices. 🤔

Why it matters? Twisting history risks disconnecting younger generations from the lessons of courage, unity and justiceand fuels new forms of extremism. Let’s remember the full picture, honor all heroes and keep that anti-fascist spirit alive! ✊🕊️
