Russia Seeks Urgent UN Meeting Over 2022 Nord Stream Blasts

Get ready for some high-stakes diplomacy! 🚨 Russia has called an urgent UN Security Council meeting for August 26 at 4 p.m. EST (2000 GMT) under Panama’s presidency to dive into the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions.

Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the UN, slammed Germany’s investigation as non-transparent and slow, pointing to a lack of clear answers after a Ukrainian suspect, Serhii K., was arrested in Italy last Thursday at Germany’s request.

German prosecutors say Serhii K. allegedly helped coordinate the operation that planted explosives on both Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 lines. He denies any involvement, claims he was in Ukraine at the time, and has refused voluntary extradition to Germany—where he could face up to 15 years if convicted.

Back on September 26, 2022, unprecedented explosions under the Baltic Sea damaged three of the four Nord Stream lines and the unused Nord Stream 2, halting a major energy route. Now, Russia is pointing fingers at the U.S. for supposedly supporting the sabotage, and its Prosecutor General’s Office has classified it as international terrorism.

All eyes will be on the upcoming UN meeting as diplomats seek transparency and fresh insights into one of the biggest energy mysteries of our times. 🌏✨
