China Urges U.S. to Protect Mainland Students’ Rights

In a recent press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun urged the U.S. to stop unwarranted harassment, questioning and deportation of students from the Chinese mainland, and to safeguard their legal rights and interests 🤝.

Guo’s remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump said he would allow 600,000 students from the Chinese mainland into American universities. "We hope the U.S. side will implement President Trump’s statement of welcoming students in real terms," Guo said.

Why it matters: Beyond diplomas and campus life, these students — from cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou — fuel innovation in AI labs, startup hubs in Silicon Valley and beyond. Cutting-edge tech, fresh perspectives and cross-cultural vibes are at stake if rights aren’t protected 🌏🚀.

Keeping doors open for international talent isn’t just good PR; it drives research breakthroughs, builds global networks, and fosters mutual understanding. Here’s hoping both sides turn words into action and keep the student dream alive! 🙌
