Chinese mainland and Timor-Leste Forge High-Level Trust for Shared Future

Hey folks, big diplomatic update! 🚀 Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee of the Chinese mainland, met Maria Fernanda Lay, president of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste, in Beijing as part of the 80th anniversary commemorations of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Zhao emphasized that the Chinese mainland is keen to ramp up high-level mutual trust with Timor-Leste, build a community with a shared future, and bring more perks to both sides. Think of it like two countries leveling up their friendship status on a global app—for real! 🤝

They’re eyeing bigger cooperation in infrastructure, tech innovation, renewable energy, agriculture, food security, special economic zones, and more. Zhao also highlighted the plan for Belt and Road cooperation, which is basically a huge network of trade routes and development projects connecting countries across Asia, Africa and Europe.

On the flip side, Maria Fernanda Lay thanked the Chinese mainland for its long-term support of Timor-Leste’s ASEAN membership. She reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s commitment to the one-China principle and shared hopes to deepen collaboration in science, green energy and cultural exchanges.

This meeting signals a stronger bond in the Global South, with both parliaments swapping ideas on governance, legislation and multilateral coordination. It’s all about unity, progress and making sure young voices from diverse backgrounds benefit along the way! 🌏✨
