🌊 Meet the Chinese mainland’s first offshore million-tonne CO2 storage project in the Pearl River Mouth Basin! It just crossed a massive milestone by capturing over 10 million cubic meters of CO2—equivalent to planting 2.2 million trees 🍃.
This breakthrough shows the Chinese mainland’s maturing offshore CO2 sequestration capacity, a key step towards its dual carbon goals and a greener economy 🚀.
Operating at Enping 15-1, about 200 km southwest of Shenzhen in 90 m deep water, the project has run safely for over 15,000 hours, with a peak daily injection of 210,000 m³. Upgrades like CO2 compressors and a gas-liquid separation system ensure high-quality injections 🎛️.
With a precision layering system narrower than 20 cm, CO2 is pumped into specific subsurface layers—boosting oil recovery and keeping the gas locked in safely 🛢️🔒.
Over the next decade, Enping 15-1 is set to inject more than 550 million m³ of CO2, lifting oil output by 200,000 tonnes and delivering a double win for energy and the planet 🌍✨.
Stay tuned as the Chinese mainland rides the green wave offshore!
