Venezuela Warns US Military Buildup Threatens Regional Peace

At the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) meeting in New York, Venezuelan FM Yvan Gil sounded the alarm over the US ramping up its military footprint in the Caribbean. He warned this move could shake up Latin America and the Caribbean’s long-held status as a "zone of peace." 🌎✌️

Gil pointed out that any attack on Venezuela would inevitably impact its neighbors and the regional economy. With military ships and aircraft popping up across Caribbean waters, the risk isn’t just for his country—it’s a ripple effect across the entire region, from Mexico down to the island nations.

While Gil stressed that Venezuela isn’t looking for a fight with the US, he accused certain Washington political circles of pushing a planned military aggression. As a countermeasure, President Nicolás Maduro has put deterrent steps in place to keep tensions from escalating. 🇻🇪🛡️

He also rejected recent attempts to link Venezuela’s leadership to drug trafficking as "a great lie," calling for dialogue over conflict and cooperation over show of force to protect regional stability.

For young global citizens, this debate isn’t so different from discussions in South and Southeast Asia. Think of growing naval drills in the Indian Ocean or tensions around the Malacca Strait—when big powers flex muscles, smaller economies and communities feel the impact. Staying informed and pushing for peaceful solutions is key to keeping trade flowing and people safe. 🚢🌏
