China Urges U.S. & Russia to Revive New START Nuclear Deal

China’s foreign ministry is urging the U.S. and Russia to shoulder their “special responsibilities” on nuclear disarmament and reboot the New START treaty. 🕊️

At a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun highlighted that the U.S. and Russia—home to the world’s largest nuclear stockpiles—should honour commitments under the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) and discuss follow-up arrangements.

New START, signed in 2010, caps deployed strategic nuclear weapons for both sides and is set to expire next year. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signalled willingness to extend it if Washington reciprocates.

Guo appreciated Russia’s positive stance and reiterated that both sides need to significantly and substantively reduce their arsenals—an outcome widely expected by the international community. Lowering nuclear risks keeps our planet safer and more stable.

Looking ahead, transparent talks between the U.S. and Russia could build trust and long-term security. For techies, gamers, and digital natives across South and Southeast Asia, this isn’t just geopolitics—it’s about a future where booming digital economies and cross-border collaborations thrive without the shadow of nuclear tension. 🌐✨
