North Pacific Coast Guards Wrap Up Big Cooperation Meet in Shanghai 🤝

Big news from Shanghai! 🌟 The North Pacific Coast Guard Forum, a week-long powwow of ocean guardians, just wrapped up with some solid cross-border vibes.

Over 80 reps from the Canadian Coast Guard, the Japan Coast Guard, the Republic of Korea Coast Guard, the Border Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the United States Coast Guard, the China Coast Guard, and the Maritime Safety Administration of the People’s Republic of China got together to hash out real-world challenges. Topics ranged from tackling illegal migration and drug trafficking to leveling up joint operations and sharing intel like never before.

Imagine coordinating multi-nation ops as smoothly as splitting a ride fare on a ride-hailing app—that’s the level of sync they're aiming for. 🔍💡

The highlight? It was the first in-person meetup of all six heads since 2020. Zhang Yahong, vice mayor of Shanghai and director of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau, rolled out the welcome mat, while Counselor Liu Qian from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered the send-off at the farewell dinner.

By the end of the forum, everyone had agreed on a roadmap for 2024—covering maritime security, marine environmental protection, and capacity building for future ops. Plus, the China Coast Guard officially passed the forum flag to the Border Service of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, setting the stage for next year’s host.

This boosted lineup of coast guard teamwork is a big step toward safer seas and cleaner oceans. 🌊🌍 Keep an eye out—our neighbouring waters are getting a whole lot more collaborative!
