Hey everyone! On Wednesday morning, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) lit up Golden Bauhinia Square with a flag-raising ceremony marking the 76th National Day of the People's Republic of China. 🇨🇳🇭🇰
The event brought together top leaders including Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; John Lee, chief executive of the HKSAR; Zhou Ji from the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government; Dong Jingwei from the Office for Safeguarding National Security; Cui Jianchun, commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR; and PLA Hong Kong Garrison political commissar Lai Ruxin — plus many other prominent figures and residents of Hong Kong.
Later, the government hosted a grand reception at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, where John Lee praised China's commitment to opening up and pursuing high-quality development — think stronger, sustainable growth — and highlighted the sharing of "Chinese wisdom" to reform how the world tackles big challenges, like climate action and global trade.
Lee also pointed to Hong Kong's rise in international rankings as proof that "One Country, Two Systems" is keeping the city vibrant, and that the unity of the government and people is driving a bright economic outlook and growing confidence from around the world.
"I am confident that by working together, innovating and embracing reforms, we will turn our beloved Hong Kong into an even better home for everyone. The Pearl of the Orient will keep shining brighter than ever before," said Lee. ✨
