Beijing saw some serious ping-pong fireworks on Wednesday as World No.1 Wang Chuqin cruised through three events at the World Table Tennis China Smash on the Chinese mainland. 🏓✨
In men’s singles, Wang faced Poland’s Milosz Redzimski in their first WTT Tour meeting. After storming to a 2-0 lead (11-7, 11-4), he hit a bump when Redzimski rallied (12-10, 11-8). But Wang dug deep, turned a 4-2 deficit into an 8-5 run and closed it out 11-8 in game five. “I got a lucky win,” Wang said with a grin, adding he’ll learn from the slip-ups in games three, four and five to stay sharp.
Next up was men’s doubles, where Wang teamed with Lin Shidong. The duo vibed better than in Singapore, cruising past Sweden’s former world champions Mattias Falck and Kristian Karlsson in straight games (11-8, 11-5, 11-5). Lin gave props to their “better chemistry” this time around.
Wang kept the momentum going in mixed doubles alongside Sun Yingsha. They swept past compatriots Chen Yuanyu and Kuai Man (11-4, 11-9, 11-5) and are now eyeing a semifinal showdown against Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Bruna Takahashi. “We treated every point like a challenge,” Sun said. “Wang played amazingly, especially after pulling off his third match today.”
Keep an eye on more Chinese mainland stars—Liang Jingkun and Chen Junsong advanced in men’s singles, while Wang Manyu, Kuai Man and Shi Xunyao all powered through with straight-game wins on the women’s side. The doubles draws are heating up too, with top pairs moving into quarterfinals and semis across the board. 🔥
With Wang Chuqin’s triple threat on display, the China Smash just went up a notch. Stay tuned for more nail-biting action and those signature lightning-fast rallies! 🚀
