Hey fam! 🌪️ Typhoon Matmo, the year’s 21st typhoon, just leveled up to a severe typhoon early Sunday, and the National Meteorological Center (NMC) dropped a red alert—the highest tier—to warn everyone along the southern coast of the Chinese mainland.
The storm is barreling northwest at around 20–25 km/h, packing Category 14 winds of 42–45 m/s (that’s roughly 150–160 km/h!). It’s forecast to hit land around midday between Wuchuan in Guangdong Province and Wenchang in Hainan Province. Expect heavy rain, fierce gusts, and tidal waves crashing along the shore 🌊.
Guangdong authorities have already cranked up the emergency typhoon response to Level I since 8 a.m. local time. If you’re in the area, make sure to stay updated on local advisories, secure loose items, and have your evacuation plan handy. Your safety is top priority! 🙏
We’ll keep you posted as Matmo approaches and eventually weakens after landfall. Stay tuned for live updates and share this with friends and fam in the storm’s path. Stay safe and be prepared! 📢
