World’s Largest 26MW Offshore Wind Turbine Tested in Shandong

Hey, wind warriors! 🌬️ The Chinese mainland just kicked off testing its mega 26MW offshore wind turbine in Shandong Province – that’s the largest single-capacity unit in the world!

Though it’s designed to spin miles offshore, this giant 200m-tall prototype is chilling on land for the first trials at the Dongying Wind Power Testing Base. Engineers want to make sure everything’s smooth before it takes on salty seas and strong typhoons.

The numbers are wild: a 310m rotor diameter (imagine three soccer fields end-to-end!), blades stretching 153m, and a sweep area of 77,000m² – that’s nearly 11 soccer pitches worth of energy-gathering space! ⚡🏟️

Built by Dongfang Electric Corporation, this turbine was fully designed and made on the Chinese mainland, showing the region’s tech muscle in renewable energy. It’s a major flex for green power and could inspire us across South and Southeast Asia to chase more clean-tech breakthroughs. 💚🌏

Stay tuned as this beast goes through its paces – the future of wind energy is looking HUGE! 🚀
