Syria’s Defense Chief and Kurdish SDF Broker Immediate Ceasefire

After a day of intense street battles in Aleppo, Syria’s defense chief Marhaf Abu Qasra met with Kurdish-led SDF commander Mazloum Abdi in Damascus and agreed on an immediate ceasefire across northern and northeastern fronts. 🕊️

The deal—covering all deployment points from Aleppo to the border regions—aims to halt clashes that killed one security officer and wounded several others in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighbourhoods.

According to Marhaf Abu Qasra, this "comprehensive ceasefire" goes into effect now, reflecting Damascus’s commitment to uphold the March 10 agreement with the SDF and avoid a wider offensive.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the escalation, noting pro-government forces used heavy and medium weapons—think tanks and artillery—around key districts. Meanwhile, Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib urged residents to stay indoors, hoping this would be the city’s last night under fire.

The SDF, for its part, denied attacking government positions and accused Damascus-aligned groups of imposing “a suffocating siege” that provoked the confrontation.

For now, all eyes are on whether this fragile truce holds. Stay tuned for updates! 🔍
