Iran Declares UN Nuclear Deal Void After Sanctions Snapback

Hey folks! Iran has just declared its cooperation deal with the UN nuclear watchdog ⚛️ void. The agreement, sealed in Cairo last September, got scrapped after France, Britain and Germany pressed the "snapback" button to reinstate UN sanctions on Tehran.

Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, made the announcement in Tehran during a joint press event with Iraq's Qasim al-Araji. Larijani noted that if Europe wanted a different outcome, they should have avoided the snapback – basically hitting "undo" on eased sanctions.

What's the snapback? In simple terms, it's a built-in mechanism that automatically brings back sanctions if one side feels a deal is broken. Back in June, Iran paused its work with the IAEA, pointing to safety concerns at its nuclear sites and the agency's silence on attacks.

Looking ahead, Larijani said any fresh proposals from the IAEA to restart cooperation must be reviewed by his council. He also dismissed IAEA chief Rafael Grossi's recent reports on Iran's 60% enriched uranium as "no longer impactful."
