IOC Ends Saudi Partnership for Olympic Esports Games, Aims for 2027 Launch

Hey gamers and sports fans! 🎮🏅 The International Olympic Committee (IOC) just announced it’s parting ways with the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the Esports World Cup Foundation. After a year-long collab to kick off the first Olympic Esports Games, both sides agreed to call it quits and hit the reset button.

Originally revealed at the 142nd IOC Session in July 2024, the Olympic Esports Games were set for this year. But back in February, the IOC hit pause and pushed the debut to 2027.

Now, the IOC is running a "Pause and Reflect" process—think of it as a post-game review where they gather feedback, tweak their strategy, and craft a fresh partnership model. The goal? To make the Olympic Esports Games fit better with the Olympic Movement’s long-term vision and open up more opportunities for players across the globe.

Bottom line: the Olympic Esports Games are still on the horizon, and the IOC is taking extra time to get it right. Stay tuned for updates as they level up this high-score event! 🔍✨
