UN Delivers 24,000 Tonnes of Aid to Gaza Since Ceasefire

Hey fam 🌍, good news rolling in from the Gaza Strip! Since the ceasefire kicked in on October 10, the UN and its humanitarian partners have moved over 24,000 tonnes of aid through the crossings 🚚✨. That's heaps of food, meds, nutritional supplements, shelter materials, and more heading to communities that really need them.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric gave us the lowdown at a daily briefing: "More people in need have also been able to access this aid, which includes food, medicine and medical supplies, nutritional supplements and shelter materials, through the resumption of community- and household-based distributions and services," he said 🙌. Families across Gaza are finally getting what they need to stay safe and healthy.

Here's the kicker: interception or looting of supplies has dropped from a shocking 80% between May 19-Oct 9 to just 5% from Oct 10-28 🚫📦. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expects this trend to keep improving as more crossings open and more agencies get clearance to bring in aid.

Despite occasional airstrikes by the Israeli military, humanitarian partners are ramping up their efforts. OCHA also reminded all parties to keep civilians and aid workers safe during operations.

On the medical front, the World Health Organization has delivered over 840 pallets of lifesaving supplies, including:

  • Insulin and essential medicines 💉
  • Assistive devices for people with disabilities 🦽
  • Cholera response kits 🚑
  • Surgical equipment 🩺

But the health system still faces major challenges. As of October 7, Gaza's health authorities report over 1,700 health workers have been killed since the war began—leaving hospitals stretched thin 🏥💔.

Education relief is also in motion! Humanitarian partners are working to restore teaching conditions for more than 630,000 school-aged kids who've missed over two years of school. So far, they've rehabbed over 90 classrooms in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, with over 2,000 rooms still needing work 🎒📚.

This massive push shows what's possible when the world bands together. Let's keep the spotlight on Gaza and support efforts to get these essential supplies through. 🌟
