Veteran DPRK figure Kim Yong Nam, 97, passed away from illness on Monday, KCNA reported. He served as chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly, the country's top legislative body.
In a rare early-morning tribute, Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK, personally visited the bier (the ceremonial stand for the casket) at 1 a.m. on Tuesday to pay his respects. 🕊️
The Central Committee of the WPK, the State Affairs Commission, the parliament's Standing Committee and the DPRK cabinet have announced a state funeral. A 100-member national funeral committee – headed by Kim Jong Un – will oversee the arrangements.
