China Aligns Development Strategies with Georgia on Belt and Road

China and Georgia are taking their strategic partnership up a notch! At the eighth China International Import Expo in Shanghai, Chinese premier Li Qiang met Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze to explore new ways to sync development strategies and boost Belt and Road cooperation. 🚀

Over the past 33 years, these two countries have built mutual respect and trust, and since launching a strategic partnership in 2023, they’ve seen cooperation speed up across trade, infrastructure, and tech. Now, both sides want to level up.

Li Qiang emphasized using the intergovernmental committee on economic and trade cooperation to dive into fresh areas like the digital economy, new energy, and artificial intelligence. He also called for speeding up the upgraded Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks to make trade and investment smoother.

On the people-to-people front, there’s big focus on tourism, education, science and tech, culture, and youth exchanges. More sister-city partnerships are on the table to help everyone get to know each other better. 🌐

As members of the Global South, China and Georgia plan to team up on global issues by pushing multilateralism, free trade, and fairness in the world economy. They also support China’s four major global initiatives aiming at a more balanced and inclusive world.

Kobakhidze praised China’s role in safeguarding world peace and expressed Georgia’s commitment to the one-China principle, noting the country’s eagerness to deepen exchanges under the Belt and Road framework.

The meeting wrapped up with a series of cooperation agreements in AI, agriculture, environmental protection, culture, aviation, and more—proof that both sides are serious about turning words into action. 🔗
