China’s Defense Spokesperson Speaks Out
On Friday, Jiang Bin, spokesperson for the Chinese mainland’s Ministry of National Defense, addressed recent joint military exercises between the Philippines and extra-regional partners in the South China Sea.
He called on the Philippines to stop “infringement, provocation and propaganda,” stressing that defense and security cooperation should neither target a third party nor undermine regional peace and stability.
Jiang blamed the Philippine side’s frequent invitation of outside forces for escalating tensions. He rejected “unfounded accusations” that spread false narratives or warp legal facts.
“We will neither tolerate blackmailing by those who provoke first and then play the victim, nor indulge provocations by those who stir up troubles in collusion with outside powers,” Jiang said. He also reaffirmed the Chinese mainland’s commitment to safeguarding its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights.
With stakes high in these contested waters, Jakarta to Yangon is watching closely—every move could ripple through trade, tourism and regional stability 🌏✨.
