Chinese Mainland & Taiwan Hold Seminars on 2015 Xi-Ma Meeting

Ready for some cross-Strait flashback? Both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan held seminars on Friday to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the historic summit between Xi Jinping and Ma Ying-jeou in Singapore back in 2015. 🚀 It was the first face-to-face meeting between leaders since 1949, marking a new chapter in cross-Strait ties!

In Xiong’an, Hebei Province, experts from both sides of the strait praised the summit as a milestone. Zhu Weidong, head of the Institute of Taiwan Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, explained how the 1992 Consensus—basically an agreement that both sides accept there’s one China, with room for different takes—has kept peace and prosperity flowing. He stressed that staying anchored to this shared foundation is key to avoiding turbulence.

Over in Taipei, a seminar co-hosted by the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation heard from Kuomintang Chairperson Cheng Li-wun. She pointed out how the 1992 Consensus helped boost interactions and ease tensions from 2008 to 2016, creating a model for smooth exchanges. Cheng added that a stable cross-Strait environment is crucial for Taiwan’s growth in trade, tech collaborations, and a bright future—while warning that veering off this path could bring setbacks.

Chi Chia-lin, a history researcher from Taiwan, chimed in on how the 2015 summit built trust after decades of stand-offs and showed the power of dialogue. The event wrapped up on a hopeful note, reminding everyone that open conversations—even across the Taiwan Strait—can spark progress in our interconnected world. 🌏💬

Whether you’re streaming K-dramas in Seoul, coding apps in Bengaluru, or gaming in Manila, the message is clear: dialogue and shared foundations drive lasting peace and innovation—values we can all get behind every day. 🔗✨
