📣 This Wednesday, China’s State Council Taiwan Affairs Office fired back at Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments on the Taiwan region, labeling them a serious breach of the one-China principle. "We express strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition," said spokesperson Chen Binhua.
Chen stressed that there's only one China in the world and the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of the Chinese mainland. He slammed the remarks as gross interference in China’s internal affairs, noting that the Chinese Foreign Ministry has lodged solemn representations and strong protests in Tokyo.
⚔️ Calling on Japan to reflect on its wartime past, Chen pointed out that Japan’s 50-year colonial rule in the Taiwan region was marked by countless atrocities. "Eighty years ago, the Chinese mainland defeated Japanese aggressors, restored the Taiwan region, and ended Japan's occupation and plunder," he said. He warned that anyone challenging China’s core interests or standing in the way of national reunification will meet firm resistance from the government, people, and military of the Chinese mainland.
Finally, Chen directed a message to Taiwan authorities: any attempt to lean on outside forces to separate the island of Taiwan from China is doomed to fail. The takeaway: Japan should honor its wartime commitments, respect the spirit of past political documents, and stick to the one-China principle. 🤝
