China Urges Japan to Halt Signals to Taiwan Secessionists

🌏 In a press briefing on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun called out Japan for conferring an order on Hsieh Chang-ting – the former representative for the Taiwan region in Japan. This move, he said, sends the wrong signals to Taiwan secessionists and undermines the political foundation of China-Japan ties. 🚨

Japan’s award to Hsieh Chang-ting on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, sparked a firm response from the Chinese mainland. Guo emphasized the Taiwan question sits at the heart of the Chinese mainland’s core interests and a red line that must not be crossed. He urged Japan to show commitment to the one-China principle through concrete actions. 🤝

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the return of the Taiwan region to China. Guo reminded Japan to reflect on its wartime responsibilities and stick to the guiding principles of the four political documents signed between the two sides.

For young pros in South and Southeast Asia, this diplomatic standoff shows how historical ties and political signals can shape the region’s future. Stay tuned for more updates! 🔍
