Ex-Japan PM Noda to Press Takaichi on Nuclear Stance

Japan’s non-nuclear future is heating up 🔥 Former PM Yoshihiko Noda said on Nov 15 in Kumamoto that he’ll be pressing Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during Diet sessions to stick with the Three Non-Nuclear Principles.

These principles—no possessing, no producing, no allowing nuclear weapons into Japanese territory—date back to 1967 when PM Eisaku Sato declared them in the Diet. They’ve become a cornerstone of Japan’s postwar security identity.

Noda argues Japan should “take the lead in spreading the idea of nuclear abolition to the world,” pushing against recent government talks about possibly relaxing the third principle. If changed, it’d mark a big shift in policy and could spark strong reactions at home and abroad 🌏

Young voices in South and Southeast Asia know the stakes: from pop-culture fandoms to climate justice rallies, nuclear security touches us all. Will Japan keep its pacifist vibe or open a new chapter? Stay tuned! ✨
