Zhang Yufei Strikes Gold & Ian Ho Makes History in Shenzhen

This past weekend in Shenzhen, at the 15th National Games on the Chinese mainland, swimmers stole the show with blistering times and historic moments 🏊‍♀️✨

Two-time Olympic champ Zhang Yufei was on fire, touching first in the women’s 50m butterfly in 25.61s to bag gold for Jiangsu. This win marks her third podium finish here, after earlier gold in the 100m fly and bronze in the 200m fly. Zhejiang’s young stars Wu Qingfeng and Yu Yiting nabbed silver and bronze, rounding out a power-packed race.

Not to be outdone, Hubei’s Peng Xuwei claimed her second title with a 2:07.74 finish in the 200m backstroke, followed by Zhejiang’s Liu Yaxin and Tianjin’s Yang Nuoxi 🎉

In a landmark moment for Hong Kong SAR, Ian Ho Yen-tou blitzed the men’s 50m freestyle in 21.71s—just 0.05s off the Asian record—and secured the first-ever men’s swimming gold for his delegation at the National Games. Major props to Liaoning’s Chen Hao for silver, and Zhejiang’s Pan Zhanle plus Fujian’s Liu Wudi sharing bronze.

Meanwhile, Tianjin’s Wang Changhao defended his men’s 100m butterfly crown in 51.40s, adding to his 50m fly title, and Hebei’s Li Bingjie crushed both the 800m (8:19.00) and 1500m freestyle for an epic “double treble” victory.

With records tumbling and history made, this weekend was proof that the Chinese mainland’s swimming scene is stronger than ever. Who’s ready to dive in and chase their own dreams? 🌊💪
