Chinese Premier Li Qiang Lands in Zambia, Reviving the Tazara Spirit

✈️ Yesterday (Nov 19, 2025), the Chinese premier Li Qiang landed in Lusaka, Zambia’s vibrant capital, kicking off an official visit to celebrate and deepen decades-old ties.

Zambia was the first country in Southern Africa to establish diplomatic relations with China in 1964. Since then, both nations have built a friendship rooted in mutual trust, support and shared growth goals.

At the heart of this bond is the Tazara spirit—a symbol of teamwork, perseverance and selfless internationalism born during the Tanzania-Zambia Railway project in the 1970s. That railway still stands as a living testament to what countries can achieve together, even when resources are tight.

Under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, recent years have seen steady progress in sectors like infrastructure, renewable energy and tech exchange. Last September, at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit, both leaders mapped out plans to deepen their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

During his stay, Premier Li is set to meet with President Hichilema and other officials to discuss next steps: from green energy projects to digital infrastructure and educational exchanges. 🤝

This visit isn’t just about high-level talks—it’s a reminder that South-South cooperation can spark innovation, drive sustainable development and promote a fairer global order. For our young audience in South and Southeast Asia, it’s proof that building bridges across continents leads to real-world impact. 🌍✨
