Africa’s First G20: Solidarity, Equality & Sustainability in Focus

This November, Africa is making history as it hosts the G20 Leaders' Summit for the first time, shining a spotlight on the Global South's push for solidarity, equality and sustainability. 🌍

In an exclusive chat with CGTN's Cui Yingjie, Sindisiwe Chikunga, South Africa's Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, laid out bold goals for this landmark gathering. She says the summit should boost the voices of women and young people across emerging economies, turning high-level talk into real opportunities on the ground.

For many of us in South Asia and Southeast Asia, these themes hit home. Solidarity means stronger partnerships—think cross-border support for small businesses, digital learning platforms, or climate-resilient projects that link farmers from Nairobi to Dhaka. 🌾➡️🌱

Equality is about leveling the playing field. Chikunga wants to see:

  • Care economy investments—expanding jobs in healthcare, childcare and eldercare, sectors often led by women
  • Financial inclusion—easy access to mobile banking, micro-loans and digital wallets for young entrepreneurs
  • Zero tolerance for gender-based violence—cracking down on abuse so no woman is left behind

Sustainability isn't just a buzzword. It's about green energy, clean tech and eco-friendly policies that protect our planet—whether you're surfing off Bali's shores or cycling through Mumbai. 🚴‍♀️🌱

Chikunga's message is clear: "We need a G20 that listens to the Global South—our challenges, our solutions, our voices," she says. By prioritizing solidarity, equality and sustainability, this summit could kickstart a more inclusive global agenda—one where young adults across continents thrive together.

Stay tuned as this historic summit unfolds! 🔥
