Wang Yi: China–Central Asia Poised for Win-Win Growth

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi just wrapped up his Central Asia tour (Nov 19-22), and the mantra is simple: win-win cooperation for common development! 🌏

Wang, who’s also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met with his counterparts in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to share China’s vision for the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). He stressed that China’s commitment to high-quality development and high-standard opening up will unlock fresh opportunities for its neighbors—and beyond.

Here’s the lowdown on the numbers: two-way trade between China and the five Central Asian countries hit nearly $80 billion in the first three quarters of 2025 (up 15.6 percent YoY) and is poised to break $100 billion by year-end. China’s total investment in the region has topped $50 billion so far. 💼📈

People-to-people ties are booming too. In 2025’s first nine months, arrivals from the five Central Asian nations to the Chinese mainland jumped 37.7 percent YoY, while trips from the Chinese mainland to Central Asia surged 50 percent. ✈️

Wang also highlighted four major initiatives—Global Development, Global Security, Global Civilization and Global Governance—championed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The three countries are gearing up to join the group of friends for global governance and the International Organization for Mediation soon.

Compared with other regional frameworks, China–Central Asia cooperation feels more like a family affair: neighbors supporting each other, driven by mutual trust, equal footing and zero political strings. 🤝

As China’s 15th Five-Year Plan kicks off in 2026, a tighter China–Central Asia community with a shared future is on the horizon. How do you think this will reshape regional ties and opportunities? Share your thoughts below! 👇
