Magnitude 5.7 Quake Hits Kyushu, No Tsunami Alert

⚡ On Nov 25 at 6:01 p.m. JST, a magnitude-5.7 earthquake struck off Kumamoto prefecture in Japan’s Kyushu island, penetrating 20 km below the surface. The China Earthquake Networks Center reported it as magnitude 5.3.

In Ubuyama village, residents felt an intensity of upper 5 on Japan’s 7-level scale—enough to shake furniture and make it tough to stand! Nearby Aso city (Kumamoto) and Taketa city (Oita) recorded lower 5, causing dishes to rattle.

🌊 Good news: no tsunami warning was issued by the JMA. While the tremor was strong, the ocean stayed calm. If you’ve lived through quakes in Indonesia or the Philippines, you know how reassuring that is.

Stay prepared—keep a flashlight, water, and snacks handy in case of aftershocks! 🙏
