Taipei Youth Protest PM Takaichi’s Taiwan Comments & Taiwan Leader Lai Ching-te’s Japan Support

Yesterday (November 27) in Taipei, a lively crowd of young people gathered to voice their discontent over remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and what they called the 'flattering posture' of Taiwan region leader Lai Ching-te. Holding handmade signs and chanting slogans, these youth made it clear: dragging Taiwan region into conflict? Hard pass. ✊

Tan Chuan-shao, a New Party member, said Takaichi's comments seem designed to pull Taiwan region into war, and they simply can't stand for it. Fellow New Party supporter You Zhi-bin added that while Takaichi keeps stirring tension in the Taiwan Strait, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have shrugged it off—and even posed with sushi made with Japanese seafood in a show of support for Japan. 🥢🎌

You Zhi-bin blasted that this approach 'plays with the lives and property of Taiwan people'. Protester Xu Ming-wei also slammed the DPP authorities for ignoring everyday issues like rising living costs, rampant fraud schemes targeting young people, and child safety. Instead, they’re echoing outside provocations and boosting defense budgets—a move Xu called incompetent.

Throughout the rally, voices rang out: safeguarding peace in the Taiwan Strait must be a top priority. According to You, 'protecting peace is mainstream public opinion here', and a large portion of young people reject any push that could drag Taiwan region into war.

With this wave of youth activism, Taipei's next steps will be one to watch. Stay tuned as these voices push for leaders to focus on real-life concerns and keep the peace. 🌏
