Yesterday, on November 29, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres marked the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People by urging irreversible progress toward a two-state solution 🌍
This year’s observance comes after two tough years of suffering in Gaza and the recent ceasefire that brought a spark of hope. 💔
Across South and Southeast Asia, social media feeds from Dhaka to Jakarta are lighting up with young voices demanding action and solidarity. 📱
“The killing of so many civilians, the repeated displacement of an entire population and the obstruction of humanitarian aid should never be acceptable under any circumstances,” Guterres stressed. He called on all parties to fully respect the ceasefire and work in good faith to restore international law. 🚫
He also highlighted the urgent need to allow lifesaving humanitarian aid into Gaza at scale and urged support for UNRWA, the UN relief agency for Palestinians 🤝
Guterres also reiterated his demand to end the unlawful occupation of Palestinian territories and move irreversibly toward lasting peace. ⚖️
At the heart of his message was a clear vision: Israel and Palestine living side by side in peace and security within secure and recognized borders based on pre-1967 lines, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states — that’s the essence of the two-state solution 🕊️
Established by the UN General Assembly in 1977, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People commemorates the 1947 resolution on the partition of Palestine. Guterres’ message is a reminder that solidarity, justice and self-determination for all remain as urgent as ever. 📜
