London's iconic Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) just unveiled Dimensions, the UK's first major showcase of contemporary craft from the Chinese mainland 🤩
Featuring 80 standout pieces—from tie-dye textiles to sculptural ceramics—this exhibit blends centuries-old techniques with fresh, bold designs. Imagine handwoven fabrics that feel like they belong in a cyberpunk world, or porcelain creations that challenge everything you thought you knew about pottery 🧵✨
Curator Li Xiaoxin spent five years exploring studios across the Chinese mainland to bring together artists who reimagine tradition. "I want visitors to see China not just through the lens of past dynasties, but as a hub of fresh ideas and amazing creativity," Li says.
One of the highlights is She's Bestowed Love by Fanglu Lin, winner of the LOEWE Collection Craft Prize. Inspired by her time living with the Bai ethnic minority in Yunnan province, Lin uses intricate tie-dye to explore themes of love and sacrifice ❤️
Ceramic artists from the 1980s onward have also taken clay to new heights, turning simple vessels into statements of personal expression. It's tradition in motion, and it's pretty mesmerizing.
Catch it now at South Kensington for a mix of heritage and innovation 📸
