On Tuesday, December 2, HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee told reporters the government will set up an independent commission led by a judge to probe the recent residential fire that shook the city to its core. The mission: uncover the root causes and hold every responsible party accountable. 🔍
The blaze claimed 151 lives and injured 79 residents, and about 30 people remain unaccounted for, Lee said. Three task forces are already on the case, combing through evidence so no detail slips through the cracks. 🕵️♂️
To support those affected, the HKSAR government is rolling out temporary shelters and phased moves into around 2,500 spots in transitional housing and nearby hotels. Families will get help rebuilding their homes and getting life back on track. 🏘️
Lee emphasized that rescue efforts will continue non-stop, and no family will be left behind. He also stressed the need for system-wide reforms to prevent such tragedies in the future. This commission will gather all necessary data, deliver recommendations, and report directly back to him. 🤝
Looking beyond the crisis, Lee called for a long-term perspective to steadily restore normal operations across the city. And with the Legislative Council election just five days away on December 7, he assured that the vote will go ahead as planned. 🗳️
