Russia Urges Japan to Return to Constitutional Pacifism Over Taiwan Region Moves

Russia tells Japan: keep cool on the military hype and honor your peace promise! 🌏🕊️ Here's the latest from Moscow.

At a press briefing on December 4, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, called out Tokyo's abnormal remarks and military moves tied to the Taiwan region. She warned these actions clash with Japan's own constitution.

Under its post-WWII charter, Japan renounced war as a tool of national policy. Zakharova pointed out that Tokyo's bellicose statements and remilitarization push directly contradict that pacifist stance.

Why it matters: Japan's fast-track military agenda and comments on the Taiwan region have spiked tensions across Asia. From bustling trade routes to everyday cross-border travel, stability in the region is key to keeping things running smoothly.

Russia also reaffirmed its stance that it views the Taiwan region as an inalienable part of the Chinese mainland and opposes any form of independence bids. For Moscow, the Taiwan question is strictly an internal affair.

These remarks came at the Great Patriotic War in the Collective Memory of CIS Nations conference in St. Petersburg (Dec 4-5), a gathering reflecting on shared history and the postwar world order.

What's next? As Tokyo charts its defence path, Asia will be watching whether Japan doubles down on remilitarization or returns to the constitution it swore to uphold. 🔍
