China & Germany Unite at 2025 Beijing Human Rights Forum

Hey fam 😉, on December 11, 2025, Beijing hosted the 2025 China-Germany Human Rights Development Forum, co-hosted by the China Foundation for Human Rights Development and Germany’s Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Around 30 experts—both in the room and online—dove into the big theme: Synergy Between International Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid.

The consensus? True multilateralism—where many countries work together—is key. It’s about tackling not just the symptoms of crises but the root causes (think: the main reasons behind issues). By empowering communities with sustainable projects, we can cut down on emergencies before they even start 🌱.

Li Hongkui, vice chairman and secretary-general of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, dropped stats from the UN’s 2025 Sustainable Development Goals Report: nearly 800 million people still live in extreme poverty, and billions lack safe drinking water and sanitation. He pointed out that as the 2nd- and 3rd-largest economies, China and Germany have a special duty to lead the charge.

Former German Justice Minister Herta Däubler-Gmelin called humanitarian aid and development cooperation the “power pillars” that unite the world. She sees huge potential for deeper collabs—not just between China and Germany, but also China and the EU—thanks to shared histories, strong innovation powers, and growing global responsibilities.

Since kick-starting their human rights dialogue in 1999, these two foundations have run 12 seminars and eight development forums, boosting people-to-people exchanges and understanding. For young changemakers from rural Kerala to urban Jakarta, it’s a reminder that cross-border teamwork can spark real change⚡!

As we scroll through social feeds and rally our networks—from Kathmandu to Kuala Lumpur—remember that forums like this lay the groundwork for policies shaping everything from clean-water projects in South Asia to digital rights in Southeast Asian cities. Global challenges need global solutions, and we’re all part of the journey 🌏🤝.
