🕯️ In mid-August 2025, the fourth group of inheritors of the historical memory of the Nanjing Massacre was announced, receiving official certificates to honor this solemn legacy.
This year, 38 Chinese and foreign inheritors were recognized for their commitment to preserving the survivors’ stories. For the first time, descendants of international friends joined the ranks, reflecting global solidarity in keeping these memories alive.
- Thomas Rabe: Grandson of John Rabe, who set up the Nanking Safety Zone and saved countless civilians.
- Megan Brady: Great-granddaughter of U.S. doctor and massacre witness Richard Brady.
- Descendants of survivors and protectors of historical artifacts, each carrying a unique link to the past.
These inheritors will carry on the mission of documentation, education and international exchange—ensuring that the lessons of history reach future generations. By sharing testimonies and artifacts, they keep the voices of survivors resonating across borders.
For young adults in South and Southeast Asia, this is a powerful reminder: history connects us, and it’s up to each generation to protect the truth. Let’s honor their work by learning, sharing and reflecting on our shared past.
