Hey everyone! In a recent UN Security Council debate on "Leadership for Peace," China’s permanent representative to the UN, Fu Cong, urged Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to retract her comments on the Taiwan region. 🕊️
Fu Cong emphasized that real peace leadership means valuing harmony and standing up for justice. He noted that 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of victory over Japanese militarism in World War II. Yet, Prime Minister Takaichi said Japan faces a "survival-threatening situation" linked to China’s Taiwan region, hinting at possible military action. 😳
According to Fu Cong, these remarks amount to unwelcome interference in China’s internal affairs and go against Japan’s postwar commitments. They challenge the outcomes of World War II and the global rules set after the war—rules that helped rebuild peace across Asia. ⚖️
He reminded everyone that history shows how, 80 years ago, Japanese militarism used the idea of "self-defense" to justify aggression, causing immense suffering across China, Asia and beyond. Fu Cong stressed that China will not let militarism or fascism return. He urged Japan to take back its words, reflect on history, and avoid a risky path that could destabilize regional peace. 🔍
Fu Cong also reaffirmed that the Taiwan region is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. He noted that restoring Taiwan, which Japan had unlawfully seized, was a key pillar of the postwar order—enshrined in the Cairo Declaration, Potsdam Proclamation, Japanese Instrument of Surrender, UN General Assembly Resolution 2758, and China-Japan political agreements. 📜
What do you think? Is this the push Japan needs to rethink its stance? Share your thoughts below! 👇
