Sydney Mourns After Bondi Festival Shooting

On Tuesday morning (December 16), hundreds of Sydneysiders queued at a makeshift memorial at Bondi Beach to lay flowers and light candles for victims of this past Sunday evening’s mass shooting during a Hannukah festival. 🕯️🙏

The attack, Australia’s deadliest mass shooting in nearly 30 years, claimed 16 lives. Among them was one of the alleged gunmen, a 50-year-old father shot by police. His 24-year-old son remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Attendees shared messages of love and unity. “We stand together against hate,” one local said, echoing voices from around the world standing up for peace.

The candlelit vigil during Hannukah echoes our own festivals of lights—like the diyas of Diwali or the lanterns of Loy Krathong—reminding us how illumination can bring communities together across cultures.

As flowers pile up on the sand, Sydney is coming together to heal—showing that even in the darkest times, compassion can shine through. ❤️
