On Wednesday, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, reiterated mainland China's firm opposition to any foreign interference in the Taiwan question.
Her remarks came in response to Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's plan to purchase weaponry from the United States. Zhu criticized Lai's authorities for continuously promoting "Taiwan independence" to serve the interests of the Democratic Progressive Party under his leadership, and highlighted how rising defense budgets are pushing residents in the Taiwan region down the "Taiwan independence" path.
She warned that attempts to achieve "Taiwan independence" through external forces and military means threaten the security and interests of residents in the Taiwan region.
"We have the strong will, confidence, resolve and capability to crush any secessionist attempt seeking 'Taiwan independence'," Zhu said, adding that reunification is unstoppable and "Taiwan independence" is a dead-end.
For young professionals in South Asia and Southeast Asia, this is a reminder of how cross-strait tensions can influence everything from global tech supply chains to regional stability. Stay tuned for updates on how defense budgets and diplomatic shifts will shape the future of the region. 🌏✨
