Beijing pushes back: On Friday, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, slammed the US's plan to boost its "security cooperation" with Taiwan as part of the US National Defense Authorization Act for FY2026 – packing a hefty $1 billion budget. He said this move sends the wrong signal to Taiwan independence separatist forces and meddles in China's internal affairs. 😮
Chen urged Washington to stick to the one-China principle and honour the three China-US joint communiques. He called on the US to drop the Taiwan-related clauses, remove their negative impact, and handle the Taiwan question with extra care. 🤝
He also warned Taiwan authorities from the Democratic Progressive Party that no amount of US support can change Taiwan's status as an inalienable part of China or stop the historical trend towards national reunification.
