On December 20, 2025, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Cairo to reaffirm their countries’ commitment to deepening strategic ties 🔗.
The leaders highlighted gains in political, economic, and trade cooperation, and zeroed in on major joint ventures like the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Dabaa nuclear power plant 🛠️⚛️. Lavrov emphasized Moscow’s dedication to building on the agreements from al-Sisi’s May visit to Russia.
They also discussed the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum held the same day in Cairo 🌍. Both sides agreed this forum is a key route to boost partnerships and economic engagement across Africa.
Regional stability was top of mind: at the meeting, al-Sisi and Lavrov stressed the urgent need to end the Gaza war, reinforce the ceasefire, and prevent wider escalation. Lavrov praised Egypt’s role in promoting peace and security.
On the Russia–Ukraine conflict, al-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for political and diplomatic solutions, underscoring the importance of dialogue over conflict 🕊️.
