As 2025 winds down, the Gaza Strip faces an uncertain future after its deadliest year. On December 24, Ayoub Abdel Ayesh Nasr was killed when Israeli forces opened fire on civilians in Jabalia, northern Gaza. Six others, including a child, were wounded.
Elsewhere in the Maghazi refugee camp, a child was shot and injured. Since the fragile ceasefire that began in October 2025, Gaza's Health Ministry reports over 400 people have been killed by Israeli forces. The Gaza Government Media Office says the truce has been breached more than 875 times – that's nearly 10 violations a day!
Official figures show at least 1.9 million people – about 90% of Gaza's population – have been displaced, crammed into temporary shelters and relying on humanitarian aid. Schools remain closed, and basic services are stretched thin as families struggle to rebuild their lives.
With 2026 just around the corner, Gazans and the world wonder: can peace finally hold, or will the cycle of violence and displacement continue? 💔🙏
