Central African Republic Kicks Off General Elections

Hey everyone! Voting kicked off today, Sunday, December 28, 2025, in the Central African Republic. Polls opened nationwide at 6:00 a.m. local time (05:00 GMT) and will close at 6:00 p.m. (17:00 GMT), giving about 2.3 million registered voters the chance to shape their country's future.

Mathias Barthelemy Morouba, president of the National Elections Authority, marked the occasion on Facebook, noting this is the first time CAR has pulled off such a complex voting process. He emphasized months of prep and warned that 'any attempt at electoral fraud, manipulation, or violence is not only contrary to the democratic spirit, but also punishable by law.'

On the ballot, seven candidates are vying for the presidency. Incumbent President Faustin-Archange Touadera, in power since 2016 and aiming for a third term, faces stiff competition from former prime ministers Anicet-Georges Dologuele and Henri-Marie Dondra.

Provisional results for the presidential race are expected on January 5, 2026. If no candidate wins an absolute majority, the top two will head to a runoff. Stay tuned as this key vote unfolds!
