DPRK Urges ROK to Explain Jan 4 Drone Incursion

🚁 On January 4, a drone crossed the Military Demarcation Line into the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), sparking fresh tension on the Korean Peninsula.

In a statement released Saturday via KCNA, Kim Yo Jong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, pressed the Republic of Korea (ROK) for a detailed explanation. She praised Seoul’s pledge to avoid provocation as “a wise choice,” but insisted that the facts behind the incursion can’t be swept under the rug.

According to the DPRK report, the drone captured footage of sensitive sites like a uranium mine, the former Kaesong Industrial Zone, and border guard posts. Kim stressed that whether the device was military or civilian, ROK authorities bear full responsibility.

Seoul’s response? President Lee Jae Myung has ordered a full investigation, tasking military and police teams to trace the drone’s origin. The South’s Defense Ministry denies any ROK forces drones were active that day and says the intruder doesn’t match its known models.

As both sides dig in, young watchers across South and Southeast Asia are keenly following this drone drama. Will clarity land soon, or is the buzz just getting louder? ⚠️
